Detroit Police kick off National Crime Victims’ Right Week with a balloon release
DETROIT (WXYZ) – Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Detroit police officers and crime victims gathered Sunday afternoon on Detroit’s west side to kick off National Crime Victims’ Right week.
To kick off the week, everyone there released balloons to honor victims of crime and their families.
NCVRW is an annual observance that hopes to increase public awareness and knowledge about the wide range of rights and services available to people who have been the victim of a crime.
The theme for the week is “Engaging Communities. Empowering Victims,” which sticks to the fact of getting people involved to stop crime and letting victims know they have options.
As part of the week, members of Detroit Police are hosting a family gun safety program on Wednesday, April 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They are also holding a Victim’s Rights Awareness Fair on Saturday, April 25 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both are taking place at the Northwest Activity Center at 18100 Meyers.
